Millennium Challenge 2002 (MC02) VTC Media Availability

A media availability will be held via mobile videoteleconference (VTC) in the DoD Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E781, Thursday, 8 August, at 4 p.m. EDT.

Media representatives will have the opportunity to speak to Col. Douglas J. Jerothe, operations officer for the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory. The Marine Corps will be conducting urban combat operations from the Southern California Logistics Area (SCLA) near Victorville, Calif. as part of their Millennium Dragon experiment.

The VTC connection will be via International Maritime Satellite (INMARSAT) link from a briefcase-size VTC system being tested as part of the Millennium Challenge experiment. This will be the first remote portable VTC broadcast into the Pentagon Briefing Room.

This VTC system is a public affairs experiment within Millennium Challenge. It has the potential to link military commanders and spokesmen to the news media from any location in the world.

News media point of contact in the Pentagon is Lt. Col. Dan Stoneking, (703) 695-0194. At the Joint Public Affairs Operations Group, Suffolk, Va., contact Cmdr. Sandra Irwin, (757) 836-7863. At the SCLA, Victorville, Calif., contact Capt. Jason Johnston, (757) 636-4871.
